The focus of this bath remodel was to accommodate the needs of a wheelchair bound disabled veteran. The remodel involved improving the function as well as the aesthetics of the bath.

Bel Air Construction Solutions

  • The demolition portion of this job included removing all existing items that impeded the vet’s easy use of the room. Removed were a soaking tub and surround that consumed a large amount of space, all existing cabinetry and the prefabricated molded and curbed shower stall that limited access.
  • Working within the same footprint of the existing bath the Bel Air Construction Team set about improving the bath and making life easier for the vet and his family.
  • A significant task to make the room more accessible was to widen the 30” doorway to 36” to accommodate the vet’s large electric wheelchair.
  • Functionally, the new shower is designed to allow the vet to get himself from his wheelchair onto his roller shower chair. There is no curb and no enclosure to impede access. An oil rubbed bronze Moen Voss handheld shower head on a slide bar accommodates the vet and as well as other users of the shower. Two properly mounted grab bars provide an added safety feature. Aesthetically the shower walls are covered floor to ceiling with larger format travertine look light grey 12” x 24” Daltile Articulo glazed porcelain tiles. The floor is matching grey small format 1” x 3” Daltile Articulo glazed porcelain tiles laid in a mosaic pattern.
  • The floor of the bath is a richly toned Daltile Emerson Wood porcelain planks that is both complementary and contrasting the light grey shower. Daltile describes this tile as a classic choice with a subtle wirebrush effect over the graining to achieve an authentic cerused wood texture and visual. Functionally this tile is installed as a 6” baseboard to help with water management from the shower.
  • All tile is installed over Schluter substrates, an integrated family of products in which the individual components collectively form a bonded, watertight assembly which eliminates the risk of failures due to water and vapor penetration.
  • The use of high performance Spectralock grout with built-in Microban®antimicrobial product protection fights the growth of mold and mildew on grout surface.
  • Replacing the former tub is a Signature Hardware 67” Alvaro acrylic slipper tub with an oil rubbed bronze Napier free standing tub faucet and handheld shower.
  • The new vanity is a Fabuwood Allure style in mid-tone grey color that complements the floor and wall tiles. The vanity is topped with moon white granite and includes two sinks. The area under one of the sinks is open to allow the vet to access to the sink while in his wheelchair.
  • Rounding out the refreshed bath are a new tall-height water saving toilet, mirrors, shelving, medicine cabinet and lighting.

This 1960’s home still contained the original kitchen featuring design and finishes that were consistent with the era. The homeowners wanted a better functioning and more modern designed kitchen with more storage space.

Bel Air Construction Solutions

The Bel Air Construction design and production team totally revamped and modernized the kitchen, bringing it into the 21st century.

Natural cherry cabinetry by Custom Wood Products replaces the plain dark 1960s era cabinets. With the removal of the bulkheads the upper cabinets rise to the ceiling providing additional storage space. The base cabinets include several function and storage enhancing features including an integrated bread board, tray dividers, a trash and recycling pullout, and a blind corner unit. A large pantry has convenient pull-out trays.

Base cabinets are topped with an elegant warm Cambria Hermitage quartz countertop featuring delicate gold veining swirls in tight and open patterns that create lighter and darker pools of color. Backsplash tile is Artcrafted coconut from Daltile.

The dated vinyl flooring has been removed and replaced with Mohawk Ultra Wood flooring. This light-colored wood grained flooring complements the cabinet selection and is easy to clean and waterproof.

The kitchen faucet is a Kohler Bellera Pull-Down in vibrant stainless with a secure docking system and pull-down 3-function spray head.

Lighting has been enhanced throughout the space with the addition of recessed overhead and low-voltage under-cabinet lighting.

From the initial consultation the homeowners were clear that this 38-year-old kitchen needed to be dramatically transformed. According to them everything about the kitchen was inadequate. The overall layout was not functional. It lacked counter space, a prep area and storage space. They wanted a better functioning, completely redesigned kitchen with contemporary finishes, fixtures, and appliances.

Bel Air Construction Solutions

Bel Air Construction’s design team took a holistic view of the potential space that might be used to make the space more functional and recommended that the kitchen be expanded into a small adjacent eating area. Use of 3D Design renderings helped the customer visualize the possibilities. Collectively the Bel Air Construction design and production team totally revamped and modernized the kitchen, giving the homeowners everything on their wish list and bringing it into the 21st century.

Features of the transformed space include:

  • The request for more counter storage space was more than satisfied with the installation of over 50 liner feet of sleek Dura Supreme slap style lower and upper cabinetry along with nearly 30 liner feet of Diamond Black Leather Quartzite countertop material in the “U” shaped main portion of the kitchen.
  • Harvesting the space that was previously a small eating area allowed for the creation of an extremely functional prep area that includes a cooktop, Kohler pot filler, prep surface and storage space. The prep space island features a sink with garbage disposal and a Groh faucet with integrated spray. A floating, live edge wood bar counter with seating for two allows the cook the opportunity to socialize while cooking.
  • An overall color scheme using shades of grey from ceiling to floor. Providing a contrast to the greys are Diamond Black Leather Quartzite countertops and backsplashes. Complementing the grey color scheme are brushed nickel hardware on the cabinetry.
  • Taking advantage of the normal remodeling disruption, the homeowners decided to make cosmetic changes to rooms adjacent to the kitchen. The entry hall, two living spaces and the formal dining room all received new Mohawk Solidtech Plus vinyl flooring and fresh paint.
  • Matching Dura Supreme cabinetry was installed in the dining room to gain even more storage space. A captivating element of this arrangement is three lighted, glass front cabinets with servo-controlled access situated above two floating live-edge wood shelves. Incorporated into the design is a small work nook.

  • The homeowners bought the house because of its location, the layout, and the amount of space it provided for entertaining family and friends.
  • After 9 years of living with a renovation by the previous owners, the homeowners decided to make the house their own.

Bel Air Construction Solutions

Bel Air Construction designer Bobbie McMillon took a holistic look at the entire first floor and reconfigured the space to fit the homeowner’s lifestyle.

Working with Bobbie’s design, project manager Jeremiah Brown and his team of trade partners brought the design to life.

  • To accommodate large gatherings of family and friends, the former living room was converted to the dining room.
  • The former dining room, that previously included an unused fireplace, is now a quiet sitting area that hosts a workstation, bookcases with display shelving and cabinetry that functions as a butler’s pantry.
  • A small amount of square footage was harvested from an office area to create a larger laundry room that also functions as a mud room.
  • The family room got a significant cosmetic facelift. The fireplace wall is covered in washed stick wood that simulates shiplap. Lighted open shelving bookends a stylish, contemporary mantel, tiled surround, and hearth.
  • The kitchen was dramatically changed from a dated traditional design to a bright transitional design. The highlight of the new design is a large quartz island that easily seats family and friends and eliminates the need for a kitchen table.
  • The island hosts cabinetry for storage, a microwave and warming drawer.
  • A large array of Fabuwood frost colored cabinetry provides more than adequate storage space. Several upper cabinets are interior lighted with glass fronts. Undercabinet lighting is used to highlight the herringbone backsplash.
  • A stainless-steel farmhouse sink is complementary to the transitional design.
  • The nearly 1,500 square foot first floor area now features Mohawk Franklin vinyl plant flooring.

When you entered this 1960s era cottage, you were greeted by walls and dark spaces. The homeowners’ desire was to create a welcoming open and bright entrance.

Bel Air Construction Solutions

The first step in transforming the space was the removal of a non-load bearing wall between the living room and the kitchen. Doing so immediately opened the space and brought more natural light into the space that was being remodeled.

The existing dated kitchen was gutted including the bulkheads and a new one created. With the wall removed space was available to add an island. The base cabinets for the island are from Dura Supreme and painted Gale Force, a blue-grey color that contrasts with the overall neutral color tones of the space. The island counter is Silestone Ethereal Dusk quartz with bluish tone veining that is complementary to the island base.

The base cabinets are North Point Maui and finished in white. Countertops are Silestone Ethereal Dusk. Incorporated into the base cabinets is a Hafele Magic Corner blind corner unit. The backsplash is 1×4 inch Marazzi Coastal Effects Sterling mosaic tile installed vertically. White upper cabinets by North Point rise to the ceiling enhancing the open feeling of the rooms and increasing the amount of storage space.

Coordinating with the kitchen cabinetry the beverage station consists of white North Point cabinets, a Silestone Ethereal Dusk quartz countertop and 1×4 inch Marazzi Coastal Effects Sterling mosaic tile installed vertically as a backsplash.

In keeping with the new brighter theme, the dark and antiquated fireplace in the living room was elegantly revamped with a new mantel, custom millwork, Daltile Sublimity random mosaic tile on the facing, and a MSI Carrara Mist quartz hearth.

The former red brick fireplace in the dining area was whitewashed, the stove was freshly repainted, and a new mantel was created and installed.

In addition to the natural lighting the remodel includes several unique lighting sources. The island is lit by a circular Eureka Cycle LED fixture that perfectly illuminates the island. Taking the lead from that fixture, circular AFX LED flush mount fixtures are placed in the entry, hallway and at the beverage bar. Undercabinet LED task lighting is from GM Lighting.

Unifying the former three spaces are Mohawk Revwood Plus lightly colored wood grained plank flooring, crown molding and walls painted Sherwin-Williams Natural Choice.

The homeowner’s goal for this kitchen remodel was to improve functionality and increase the home’s value. The existing kitchen was old and needed an update – cabinets were falling apart, the downdraft on the Jenn-Air range made it difficult to cook items correctly, there was little to no storage, lighting was insufficient. A poor layout dominated by a hook-shaped peninsula inhibited the ability to work efficiently

Bel Air Construction Solutions

Initially the homeowner was considering the removal of wall and the elimination of formal dining room to get the kitchen they desired. Using 3D design software including a video fly-through of the space the Bel Air Construction design team demonstrated how all the homeowner’s desires could be achieved in the existing kitchen footprint while preserving the formal dining room.

  • The most significant change was to remove the hook-shaped peninsula and replace it with a large island with counter seating, storage and an under counter microwave. The island base is Dura Supreme Kendall painted in a blue/black shade to contrast with the boldly veined Dover White Carrara marble countertop.
  • The lack of storage issue was solved by installing over 40 linear feet of white Dura Supreme cabinetry including on a previously underutilized wall. Upper cabinets now reach to the ceiling creating additional storage that was not previously used.
  • The cabinetry is loaded with special features including glass fronts to display collectables, a lazy-susan corner, trash/recycling center, pull out bread board, roll out shelves, hidden recharging center, spice rack, tray dividers, and cutlery dividers.
  • Cabinet bases are topped with elegant Carrara marble.
  • The existing hardwood floor was preserved patched and refinished.
  • A multi-burner Wolf range is paired with a 1300 CFM range hood and features a pot filler.
